Young Man with a Horn (1950) Film Review

Young Man with a Horn
DIRECTOR: Michael Curtiz
Like “Mildred Pierce”, this is another Michael Curtiz movie that works equally well as drama and camp. Lauren Bacall is Kirk Douglas’ young man with a horn’s society wife who is also a closeted lesbian. Bacall is exceptionally good here and it was a brave role to play at the time. The uncredited Katherine Kurasch has a nice few moments as her lover. Good Jazz music too with Hoagy Carmichael turning up in one of his numerous movie cameos. Based on the life of trumpet player Bix Beiderbecke.
