The Women (1939) Film Review

The Women
DIRECTOR: George Cukor
BOTTOM LINE:
Every character in the movie and every animal featured was female. Also, every piece of art featured in the movie was by a woman. The screenplay was by two women (Anita Loos and Jane Murfin) based on a play written by a woman (“The Women” by Claire Booth Luce from 1936). Splendid work by Crawford, Russell, Shearer, and Mary Boland.  “The Women” is a marvelous film which just misses being a great one.
