Another well-deserved multiple winner was Pedro Almodovar’s superb “Parallel Mothers” with Penelope Cruz receiving Best Actress for her extraordinary performance and Alberto Iglesias being rewarded for Best Score.
Warner Brothers will triumph with both “Dune” and “King Richard” while Apple Original Films will also make their mark with “CODA” and “The Tragedy of Macbeth” (the latter in partnership with A24). Netflix will also have a good year with both “Tick, Tick…Boom!” and “The Power of the Dog”.
The NYFCC awarded Ryusuke Hamaguchi haunting three hour long multilingual “Drive My Car” as Best Film. Adapted from a short story by Haruki Murakami it had previously won Best Screenplay at Cannes and and Best International Feature at the Gotham Independent Film Awards.
